UNZA ENGINEERING STUDENTS CONNECT WITH INFRATEL’S DIGITAL BACKBONE

On 29th May 2025, INFRATEL Corporation Limited had the honour of hosting final-year students from the University of Zambia (UNZA) for a hands-on educational tour at our Digital House headquarters in Lusaka.

Drawn from the School of Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, and Computer Science, the students, ranging from third to fifth year, specialised in fields such as data science, electrical and electronics engineering, telecommunications, software engineering, and computer science.

Their visit was more than a field trip. It was a bold step toward bridging the divide between academic theory and practical industry application, a mission that resonates deeply with INFRATEL’s commitment to empowering the next generation of digital innovators.

The session was dynamic and interactive, a true exchange of ideas between tomorrow’s engineers and today’s practitioners. Welcomed by INFRATEL’s Corporate Communications Officer Ms Rosemary Kalwani, the students were guided through an immersive learning journey led by the Data Centre Manager, Mr Kampamba Nkole, and the Network Operations Centre (NOC) Manager, Mr Jeremiah Njobvu.

The discussion moved beyond hardware into frontier subjects such as cybersecurity, data sovereignty, and the expanding potential of cloud-based technologies. Students were invited to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and think critically about how these systems support Zambia’s digital transformation.

To complement the experience, the NOC Manager took the group to a live telecommunications tower site, where theory met terrain. Students observed how INFRATEL’s shareable digital infrastructure supports real-time communications, broadcasting, and data access across the country. Concepts such as signal integrity, network topologies, and latency management came alive before their eyes.

This educational engagement forms part of INFRATEL’s broader mission to support Zambia’s education ecosystem by creating opportunities for mentorship, skills transfer, and industry exposure.

As the students departed Digital House, they carried with them not only new knowledge but also a renewed sense of purpose, ready to take their place in shaping the technological landscape of Zambia.

At INFRATEL, we believe that empowering young minds is not just a corporate social responsibility; it is an investment in the future. We remain committed to fostering these industry-academic linkages and building a workforce equipped for the digital age.
